this morning. erin mcpike is in wichita, kansas. jennifer delgado is live at the cnn weather center in atlanta. erin, let's start with you. how's it looking? >> reporter: well, it's not quite as heavy as it was last hour but it's still pretty heavy. we've seen snow plows go by here about six times in the last two hours and the roads are still covered. also we've got this ruler, we've been measuring. about an hour ago it was 4 inches. now we're at 5 1/2. but soledad, here's the interesting thing about this storm. we're calling it a thundersnow. there's thunder and lightning that goes along with it. i wish it would happen when i'm out here but i think we've got video, so let's play that video. i don't know if you can hear it. and that's why we're calling it the blizzard of oz. we've seen that a lot on twitter from some people in kansas, so we want to name this storm the blizzard of oz, soledad. >> i thought thundersnow was dramatic enough. let's get right to jennifer d delgado on where the storm is going to head next. >> right now we are watching the storm system and, soledad, this is awe huge o

've got this extreme weather for you. erin, you've been there when the snow first started to fall and when it stopped and now comes the cleanup. >> reporter: well, and right now, today, it's a lot colder here this morning than it was yesterday. it's about 14 degrees. we hope our fingers don't freeze off. if you can see behind me, they're already starting to dig out. we've got that. now the national guard is patroling for stranded motorists throughout the state. wichita, where we are now, got a near record snowfall, 14.2". their record is 15.2". so, most of the states, schools are still closed today. although the airports are now open, starting to dig out there, too. believe it or not, what they're calling the blizzard of oz here in kansas is a welcomed development for a lot of residents. i spoke to one yesterday, kristen woodburn. here she is. >> it snows so infrequently here now, we've been in a really bad drought for several years. really, really hot temperatures in the summer and just no moisture. so, we're thrilled to see snow, ice, whatever moisture we can get. >> reporter: this is th

might get to know a bit more about him and from a very unusual place. cnn editorial producer erin mclaughlin joins us from london. first off, remind our audience, who was richard iii? >> richard iii was one of the most infamous kings portrayed by shakespeare himself as a vial and twisted villain. he's been accused of murdering both of his nephews in an attempt to keep hold of the throne. and he met his demise in 1485. all the way back in 1485 during what was called the battle of bosworth field. he was killed in action and henry vii were victorious in battle and the burial place of richard iii has long since been forgotten. that is, of course, until now. over 500 years later, a team of archeologists are poised to release their findings as to whether skeletal remains found buried in a parking lot, i new thisp mu niceple parking lot are the remains of richard iii. the media is dubbing it, the king in the parking lot. >> why do they think it is him? was it apparent how he was killed or something that was in that parking lot all these years later? >> so far the evidence that they presente
